Sondliwe Pamisa (b. 1998, Mutare, Zimbabwe) is a Zimbabwean-British interdisciplinary artist living and working in London, UK.
Drawing on literary, cinematic and musical influences, Pamisa constructs freeform narratives that capture the expansiveness of the Afropolitan experience. Working across painting, photography and sculpture, his practice explores the poetry of everyday life, examining the complexities of diasporic identity, memory and belonging.
In dynamic scenic vignettes, motifs of free-market stalls, hidden figures and domesticity bring together personal and collective histories, exploring the cultural tensions and legacies of postcolonialism, particularly in relation to the artist’s native Zimbabwe.
Through the repurposing of found materials, Pamisa explores sustainability, education and material transformation. These processes inform a broader investigation into sovereignty and liberation, tracing the ways identity and belonging are negotiated across geographical and cultural boundaries.
A recipient of the Griffin Gallery Residency (2021), and a fellow of Adidas London and GUAP Magazine’s Original Creator’s Network, Class of 2024, Pamisa has produced commissioned work for film, contributed to public campaigns, and exhibited in group and solo exhibitions. These include IWOYI: Within the Echo (2024), En Route at Southwark Park Galleries (2024), Stories We Could Tell at Roundhouse (2024), and Tate Collective: Capturing Our World In Common (2023).
